A Witch's Night Halloween Party
My daughter and her partner hosted a witch-themed Girl’s Night. They set the scene with decorations they had, and more that they borrowed from me. My daughter Sara is very creative and they enjoy hosting gatherings for their friends. I love this display on their front porch that welcomed their guests. They really know how to create a party atmosphere! The Witch’s Lair sign came from Michaels and the giant cauldron came from Party City. The skeletons are hung from the rafters (one has blown around) and they are wearing costumes. They ran out of costume material, and so one skeleton is wearing a black vinyl tablecloth that they fashioned into a dress. One also had a broken leg, that as you can see, made a convenient stew!
My daughter designed the invitation using witch themed graphics on Canva and they printed them at home onto a clouded gold sparkle invitation package she got at Michael’s.
Many of the decorations were purchased this year at Michael’s as part of the Ashland collection. The sign on the front door set the mood for what was to come.
The living room was decorated with lots of candles and witchy accents. They borrowed the long black iron candle holder from me and filled it with a dozen lit tea candles. I have had it for a long time and I can’t remember where it came from. It comes apart into two sections. I had the spider web candles and candle holders stored for a long time, so I am glad they were finally able to use them! I don’t remember where they came from. The gnarly black plastic tree comes in dozens of pieces so it can be easily stored in a small box. I found it online somewhere years ago. They wrapped one of my Halloween tablecloths around the base. I have thought about using the tree as a centerpiece on a Halloween tablescape sometime, but it is almost too large for that. The black and white striped pumpkin on the chest came from Grandin Road a few years ago.
This table in the entryway greeted the guests. They found the light up witch poster at Michaels. They borrowed the electronic Halloween lantern from me and it has a switch to turn on so that it flickers like a candle is inside. I found the lantern at Roger’s Gardens in Corona Del Mar, California a few years ago. Roger’s Gardens is a wonderful nursery and gift shop and they decorate large spaces at Halloween and Christmas with all kinds of fantastic decorations. Even if you don’t buy anything it is a great place to visit! People often take holiday photos there. As soon as I saw this lantern I knew it would be a perfect centerpiece for a Halloween tablescape and I used it on a Halloween tablescape a few years ago. You can see that tablescape here. The white skull that I found at HomeGoods is sitting on a black pedestal stand that I bought at Grandin Road several years ago. They came in a set of three, all different heights, and my daughter always uses them to place things at different heights in her designs. The bats on the wall came from Amazon.
When you entered the dining room, one wall was covered with this wonderful witch’s lair backdrop that they found on Amazon. It is made of thin vinyl and it made the perfect background for photos!
The party hostesses, Sara on the left, and Elizabeth on the right. Sara’s witch hat came from Michael’s and her spiderweb wrap came from Party City.
This seance table scene was in the center of the room and featured a giant marble-looking skull (probably from HomeGoods) and Luminara brand electronic candles. They got the limited edition Ouija board at a Spirit Halloween store. These stores pop up in Southern California in vacant stores during the Halloween season.
They set up an apothecary on a low shelf in the family room using antiques, and an assortment of items they borrowed from me including lots of lighted candles and bottles of potions. The Old Salem Apothecary sign came from Michaels. I can’t remember where I found the skull years ago but it was brown and white and a friend painted and changed the brown to black. It looks so much better now.
This corner included a Raven’s wood sign (Michael’s) and a black velvet pumpkin with skeleton hands that came from Party City.
Last year Hubby downloaded and printed similar bottle labels to these that I attached to random bottles. I am looking forward to setting an apothecary-themed tablescape next Halloween!
I purchased this darling witch’s hat centerpiece at Roger’s Gardens a few years ago, and my daughter loved it and made it the focal point of the buffet.
They purchased the raven snow globe at Marshall’s last year and one of the vintage looking books came from JoAnn’s.
They found many of their paper goods, including these cocktail napkins, at HomeGoods.
Even the kitchen and bathroom were decorated!
They decorated their buffet and large tables to use as serving areas for food. They borrowed one of my Halloween tablecloths (Amazon) and a few candle holders. They found the Be a Witch plaque at Michaels. The black raven was one of a set of two I found at Grandin Road online this fall. Look for a Raven themed tablescape next Halloween! They draped several areas with black netting fabric from Party City and it really added to the witchy vibe.
My daughter affixed candy eyeballs with frosting to meringues purchased at Trader Joe’s. Many of the goodies came from our local bakery.
Many of their friends really enjoyed escaping out for a night of fun. One of my daughter’s childhood best friends dressed as Wednesday Addams and brought gorgeous handmade cookies that she decorates and sells!
My daughter is still close to her childhood friends and I love seeing them all together as adults.
From what I hear, everyone had a fantastic time!
