A Playing Cards Tablescape
This tablescape would be such a fun table setting for game night. It is a repeat of a tablescape that I did in 2019 and a few years before that too. I simplified the tablescape a bit this time and I took better photos. The playing cards table topper is vintage and I bought it on Ebay many years ago. I spread it on a black polyester tablecloth that I probably bought on Amazon several years ago. The idea for the theme of this tablescape actually started with a trip to a garage sale several years ago.
Playing Card Plates
At the garage sale I found a set of salad plates that had playing cards on them. I knew I could develop a tablescape around them so I bought them. I also found some other ceramic card items as well. After I got home I googled playing cards plates and I found these card suit salad plates on Ebay that I liked better than the ones I found at the garage sale so I bought them too. They were made by I. Godinger & Co.. I have four different place settings with the four different card suits and then I repeated two. For each place setting the salad plate design matches the place card that is a playing card. The last time I did this table setting I added small bowls at each setting that had the card suit shape and color that matched the center of the salad plate. I decided to simplify this table setting and I left them off.
I like the different card suits design around the lip of the plates.
The next plate down on the plate stack is a Fiesta salad plate in Scarlet, (this set is part of our everyday dishes). I use this red plate often on tablescapes. You can see it on one of my 4th of July tablescapes here.
This black porcelain dinner plate was made by 10 Strawberry Street and the pattern was called Classic Black Porcelain. I bought them several years ago when I started tablescaping probably at HomeGoods. If you are a tablescaper a basic black dinner plate is a good plate to have in your collection because you will use it often. You can see this plate on a winter themed tablescape here.
I have a couple extra plates in this plate stack. This large red dinner/charger plate came from Pottery Barn several years ago. The pattern is called Cambria. A charger plate needs to be about 11”-12” in diameter and this plate is about 11 3/4”. It could be either a dinner plate or a charger plate.
The final plate down on the plate stack is my Antique Beaded charger from Williams Sonoma that I bought several years ago. I like the beaded design around the rim of the plates. You can see this charger on a Thanksgiving tablescape that I did here.
Frosted Red Flatware
This flatware set is made by D & D Inox in Italy. I bought it at Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales during a major sale several years ago. I have frosted flatware sets in several colors now and I like how they look on my tablescapes. I really like this marbleized red color. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying flatware here.
Playing Card Napkins
I had someone on Etsy make these playing cards napkins for me several years ago. I love the way they look on this tablescape. I can’t remember where I bought the red leather napkin rings several years ago but it was probably Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn on sale. They were some of the first napkin rings that I bought when I started tablescaping.
These dice place card holders came from Oriental Trading online a few years ago. For fun, I added the names of some of my female ancestors on the playing cards place cards although I suspect a few of them would think card playing was inappropriate! You can read my blog post about how to store napkin rings and place card holders here.
Hubby found the red glass goblets on the left at an estate sale last year. I think they are hand blown Ruby Red Bubble Glass Goblets made by Artland. The goblet on the right with the black bowl and clear stem was made by Classic Touch and it is called V-Shaped Water Glass, Black With Clear Stem. I bought them at Houzz online a couple years ago. I like the mix of these two different goblet patterns on this table setting. You can read my blog post about what to consider when you are buying goblets here.
I found the large red dice at a garage sale several years ago, it has a top that opens and it swivels on the base. I store poker chips and sets of playing cards in it (although they haven’t been used in decades). It is sitting on the boxes that the salad plates came in. I had to rescue those boxes from my husband trying to throw them away several times. I knew they would come in handy someday!
Playing Cards Vintage Tablecloth
Here is a photo of the playing cards table topper so you can see the entire design. I am always looking for unique vintage tablecloths, they are difficult to find in good condition now.
I found this dice salt and pepper set and the following playing cards set at garage sales several years ago.
I seem to create black and red and white tablescapes on a regular basis and I really love the way these colors work together.
