A Shipshape Tablescape
I will start by saying yes, you would remove the centepiece before dining because it blocks the view somewhat. I have been talking to my husband about a tablescape with a ship theme for a while. He found this ship at an estate sale earlier this year and I decided to pull something together. Although you can’t see it in this photo, the tablecloth is a large compass. Hubby was in the commercial GPS navigation business for over 40 years so this tablescape is for him too.
For once I remembered to take a photo of the entire tablecloth before I set the table!
As is my practice when I am looking for something in particular I did a Google search for a salad plate with ships on it and I found these salad plates on Ebay a couple months ago. They were made by Alfred Meakin, Staffordshire, England and the back says, “Fair Winds, original copper engravings depicting historical scenes of Chinese export to America, The George Washington at Anchor”. I don’t usually buy this type of design on a plate but it was perfect for this tablescape.
I bought these heavy melamine cream dinner plates at HomeGoods a few years ago. I also bought the same plate in a deep turquoise color. They were made by IL Mulino New York. If you read my blog you saw them a couple weeks ago on my Palm Trees tablescape.
I have had these beige placemats for several years. They probably came from Pier 1 or World Market.
The amber flatware was made by D & D Inox in Italy. I bought it online at Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdales during a major sale several years ago.
I found the world map napkins on Etsy a few months ago. The ship’s wheel napkin rings came from Etsy as well. They were unfinished wood but Hubby painted them for me. He painted some brown and some navy blue. You might see those next summer.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted for the place card holder but I suddenly thought of a compass and found these on Amazon. They are sitting on a clear glass cube place card holder made by Oleg Cassini that I bought at HomeGoods several years ago.
The brown goblet on the left was made by Lenox between 1966 and 1985. It was called Antique Brown. I bought them on Ebay several years ago. Can’t remember where I bought the amber glass goblets, if anyone recognizes the pattern, please let me know.
Hubby found this ship at an estate sale a few months ago. We had seen some ships at HomeGoods over the summer but there was always something wrong with them, wrong color, wrong size, whatever. When he saw this one he really liked it and he brought it home. The ship colors set the tone for a brown and beige tablescape.
I saw some ships come sailing!
